This two day course will present specific handling strategies that can assist the clinician in treatment of adult neurological patients in acute and long term rehabilitation care settings.

Basic principles of the NDT approach and ICF will be presented to guide the clinician in identifying key impairments that interfere with or restrict the patient's movement and function.

Participants will learn

• Treatment strategies for improving balance in sitting and standing.  
• To facilitate functional movement for goal-oriented tasks like scooting to the edge of a bed or chair, transitioning to standing, and how to begin using the UE actively for support and stability.
• How to establish discipline specific goals related to the client's functional limitations and discuss treatment strategies to enhance functional performance and outcome.

The course format will involve lecture, laboratory time to practice treatment strategies on each other, and a patient demonstration performed by the instructor.
